What is the Personal Ordinariate of
Our Lady of Walsingham in Scotland

The Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham was established in 2011 by Pope Benedict XVI, and extended by Pope Francis in 2013, to allow Anglicans (and Scottish Episcopalians) to enter into the full communion of the Catholic Church while retaining much of their Anglican heritage and traditions.

Our mission is to be a place where members of the Scottish Episcopal Church can become one with the Catholic Church and feel 'at home' in surroundings which are familiar culturally and liturgically, and come to realise that the Ordinariate is now the normative route for those who are attentive to their Anglican heritage and feel drawn to achieving full visible unity with the Holy See.

A treasure to be shared   The Ordinariate was established to bring these faithful Christians into the full life of the Catholic Church (in Pope Benedict's words) in such a way as "to maintain the liturgical, spiritual and pastoral traditions of the Anglican Communion within the Catholic Church, as a precious gift nourishing the faith of the members of the Ordinariate and as a treasure to be shared."

Ordinaraite Form of the Mass   The Order of Mass given to us by Pope Francis has recognised these traditions and reflects our Anglican Prayer Book tradition.  It is all in English and includes many very beautiful prayers, dating back some 400 years.  The language is poetic, formal and traditional, using "Thee" and "Thou" to address the Almighty.

In Scotland the Ordinariate Use Mass - Divine Worship is celebrated in numerous locations, weekly, monthly or occasionally due to the scattered nature of members and associates of the Ordinariate in Scotland.
